In the midst of my exams

Hi people out there ,

I am still in the midst of preparing my operations management exams for next mon which is my final paper of this semster. So many topics to cover but then thank God this is more of a calculations paper.

I now realized that why people at the lowest level in the hierarchy in the organization are being so called 'bullied' by the management level cos it is due to making enough challenges for people at the lowest level to feel challenged enough just because of this thing called Just in time approach.

I am doing my studying at my school library and I found 2 new friends. One is called Ann , another is called 老师. Hoping for that today i will be able to complete 11 chapters in 9 hours. Then tomorrow can start practicing calculations. Sunday to do memorization work.

Health tips for the working class adults

Let's just cover something very simple health tips for the working class adults. Having a healthy body at work not only increases your productivity but also reduces the amount of stress that your body is going to get throughout the week.

Tip 1: Drink more fruit juice

By drinking more fruit juice , it will help you to increase the number of anti-oxidants that will help you to fight against the free radicals aka stress or viruses like flu & etc. However, if in the event you are a diabetic patient I would suggest that you take minimum amount of fruits . Diabetic patients are not allowed to take fruit juice due to high sugar content.

Fruits that I recommend for diabetic patients would be a slice of apple or guava.

Tip 2: Sleep less in air conditioned room

If you are sick, it is best that you check on the air condition system if it is dusty 'cos it is not healthy to breathe in dusty air when you are on the mode of recovery or just fully recovered from the illness.

Tip 3: Eat less of the savoury food and adopt the habit of taking slightly bland food

Even for the different kind of  savoury food when we compare between the meat dishes and the vegetable dishes, the meat dishes will take longer to digest. It will affects the digestive system. So for the sake of your digestive system , try to take in more fibre to detox.

 Tip 4: Stretch

If your working hours are a bit tad long , it is best to do some stretching at the desk. Best to do some stretching once you wake up, it will help in the blood circulation and with that it will help u to keep a healthy body.

Food review at local neighbourhood coffee shop in bedok reservoir road

I was once again being invited to do food review for nice Indian -Muslim food this time round . This review was done about 2 weeks back . Nonetheless, it was something new which I was able to try out. Something new about doing food review was that it was a neighbourhood coffee shop serving fusion food between the local Chinese fare, Indian fare , Muslin fare and Thai fare.

This neighbourhood coffee shop is known as the Al waris, located at 117 Bedok Reservoir Road.

Though the food review was done in a neighbourhood coffee shop , it was nice as the food are cooked on the spot just like the chinese zi char stall. Food that are being reviewed are the nasi goreng kampung , nasi goreng usa , seafood kway teow and

                                                             Nasi Goreng Kampung

Nasi goreng kampung is a traditional fried rice in the Muslim fare just like the Chinese fried rice. It was done in a manner whereby the rice did not stick together and you could taste the individual grains of the rice even after for 10 mins on the table without touching it. Best of all , it was not oily.

                                                                Nasi Goreng USA

This is the first time that I have heard a dish called Nasi goreng usa . Nasi goreng usa consists of tumeric fried rice, nice mutton meat and a sunny side up. The mutton meat was the crux to the nasi goreng usa cos its spicy yet without the smell of the mutton and also tender.

                                                           Seafood Kway Teow

As for this dish, it is able to same kind of taste we can get from the normal chinese zi char stall . It lacks of the wok hei ( the burnt kind of taste) in the kway teow. Portion wise , I would say you get what you pay for.

                                                      Chup Chai ( mixed vegetables)

This dish is abit pale in comparison as to the other dishes and the vegetables are a bit well cooked for my taste. However , it taste nice if the elderly folk were to compliment it with plain porridge.Sauce wise, it seems to be like getting the taste from the seafood kway teow sauce's style.

                                                 Promfret with pudina herbs

This dish is a bit unique cos we hardly see that Indian food is without spices. However, this time round the spice is called mentha arvenis(podia). The chef use mentha arvenis ( podia aka japanese peppermint) to pound it and make it into to a paste to spread on top of the fish.

Podina is used as a carminative and an expectorant. The plant is highly effective in treating headaches, rhinitis, cough sore throat, colic, prurigo and vomiting. It serves as a good blood cleanser, since it is antiseptic and anti-bacterial. Podina plays a significant role in alleviating swollen gums, mouth ulcers and toothaches. Crushed and bruised pudina leaves are used in treating insect bites. The decoction and infusion of its leaves and stems helps in fever, stomachaches, dysmenorrheal and diuresis. Fresh leaves of podina are crushed and sniffed for dizziness. Crushed leaves are also applied on the forehead and temple, to cure headaches.

The other 2 companion side dishes which is the long beans and french beans are well saute and crunchy.

                                                          Freshly grated apple juice

This is the first time when I got fruit juice without any sugar syrup in it. Kudos to Al waris!

                                                          Home made ice lemon tea

Seems like this homemade ice lemon tea is done with lipton tea and little sugar syrup together with a lime.

Lastly, we had a group photo taken at the shop front.

If you are planning to do online delivery, Al waris  does offer food delivery to the nearby office in the ubi or eunos area. For more info , please go to http://www.alwaris.sg.

Emotional Wellness

Hi all ,

Just wanna to share something about emotional wellness with you guys out there through an excerpt that i was reading from my daily devotionals.

The excerpt goes like this:

Being Emotionally Honest

Ephesians 4:15

Speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him, who is the head, even Christ

You can guard your intimate relationships by monitoring how you verbally express your emotions to them. For example, you're having a terrible day at the office, so you call home and say to your wife, "Honey, I'm having a bear of a day. I won't be home until about 6:00 p.m. and I have a meeting at church at 7:00. Could you have dinner ready when I get home?"

When you hit the front door you discover that your wife doesn't have dinner ready as you'd hoped. "For crying out loud," you blaze at her, "I wanted dinner ready at six o'clock! That's why I called you!" Is your wife really the cause of your emotional outburst? Not really. You had a terrible day and you're tired, hungry and stressed out. It's not her fault. Anything could have set you off. You could have just as easily kicked the dog.

Rather than level your wife, why not be emotionally honest? When it comes to acknowledging emotions with your inner circle, honesty is the best policy. But be sure to speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15).

Another important guideline for acknowledging and expressing your emotions is to know your limitations. Be aware that if you're on the edge emotionally--angry, tense, anxious, depressed--it's not a good time to make decisions on important issues. Your emotions may push you to resolve what you're struggling with, but you may regret your resolution if you push too hard. You're going to say things you'll later regret. Somebody's going to get hurt. You're far better off to recognize your emotional limits and say, "If we keep talking I'm going to get angry. May we continue this discussion at another time?"

Being emotionally honest lets others off the hook. When you honestly convey how you feel, others know you are not primarily mad at them and that the problem is not their fault. They can also love you better by meeting the needs you express.

So take time to acknowledge your emotions and be real to yourself and from there , you can do greater things and focus on happiness.  When you know how to better manage your emotions , your relationships get better.

Are you feeling frustrated at work ?

Are you constantly feeling frustrated at work? Nitty gritty things like why your colleagues can't handle a simple task like formatting a page nicely or even do a simple mail merge might just pissed your day when you are feeling moody for the day.

Have you ever thought that how your own behaviour would actually affect the whole team's day at work ? Cos in an organization, one's input at work will affect how the team works.Instead of blaming one another how slow the team works, call out for a meeting to find out whether is there any process is taking too much time . For instance, a huge chunk of emails to be replied everyday , mailing of letters, handling of customers ( both internal and external) , checking of on going project status and handling of phone calls, etc. Perhaps you could allocate a time for checking of emails for a period of 1 hour. For this one hr, there is no other thing that you should be doing other than to check emails. Settle the emails that require the priority attention and also do get yourself a filter using the email filter from www.boxbe.com , it will only allow u to first draw your attention to read only emails from contacts and subsquently let u read emails that are not from your contact list.

With this, I would like to recommend a book I have read in the past which is how to simplify your life

Multi- tasking is the lowest form of effiency !

Food Review at Indian Curry House @ Expo on 11.9.12

This food review that was done at Indian Curry House at Expo was actually an invite from the courtesy of Mr Santosh Cyrill of Indian Curry House @ Expo  and Mr Haren Yong from Street Directory.com

A little back ground about the Indian Curry House

Indian Curry House is founded in 2008 by three professionals with combined experience 30 years’ in food & beverage industry. Today it is run by a team of 25 F&B professionals specialising in Authentic Indian dishes. They have 3 branches located at east coast, expo and bukit timah.

It was on a tuesday evening that myself and fellow bloggers are attending this food review. The place is pretty cosy with nice curtains and nice lighting to set the evening mood right. We were all being treated to the restaurant's specialities like the tandoori chicken, butter chicken, fishcake, chilli garlic prawn, kashmiri rogan josh, kulfi and gulab jamun.

Here's the first dish for the food tasting - tandoori chicken

The tandoori chicken tasted like it was nicely being barbeque over the charcoal. The level of spicyness was not too overwhelming. Even kids would be able to take it.

Second dish-fish cake

The fish cake tasted a bit like meat patties with bread crumbs. A different version from what the usual chinese style of fish cake that we could get from the local supermarkets. However , the taste of the fish meat is rather flaky inside which denotes that it is freshly made with no preservatives in it. It is slightly salty. Thus it would be good if besides pairing up with the mayonaise sauce, it could be paired with either ketchup sauce or garlic chilli sauce from sinsin.

Next , we have the saffron rice and the plain basmati rice.

Saffron rice

                                                 Plain basmati rice

Basmati rice is a long rice grain which is typically used to cook for nasi briyani. Having said that , basmati is benefical to diabetic patients  as it is said to be having medium glycemic index which is lower than any other types of rice.

What does the glycemic index means ? It is actually a measurement of glucose level increase from the consumption of carbohydrate.

Talking about the saffron and plain basmati rice, it is so nice that you could even eat it on its own. As saffron is one of the most expensive spice in the world, I am glad that I was able to enjoy the taste of  the saffron rice on its own. The plain basmati rice is also unique in its own way where tasting each fine grain of it was so enjoyable.

My favourite dish - garlic naan

The garlic naan is done in a manner where it is so crispy and the taste of the garlic is not overwhelming that one would get the pungent garlic smell after eating !!! Kudos to the north indian chef behind the kitchen.

Next , it's the butter chicken

The butter chicken is very soft and the creamy tomato sauce that is used to cook does not cover the taste of the tomato yet still can savour the buttery taste of it.

Next dish- kashmiri rogan josh

This is the mutton dish that does not have the stench of the mutton. It is well stewed with tomatoes and the after taste was that the mutton melts in ur mouth.

Next dish - chilli garlic prawns

This dish is considered to be the fusion of the chinese and indian food of the restaurant. It is prepared in the manner of  fusing spring onion, onion , red chilli and the secret sauce by the chef.

The Grand Finale- Desserts

                                                            Pistacho Kulfi

It tasted like it was mango blended with condensed milk ,frosted  with ice cream. I found that it was a little too sweet for my liking but it was a nice combination for people with sweet tooth.

Gulab Jamun

It is made up of milk and being deep fried before simmering with sugar syrup . Personally I feel that the size of the dumpling was made just right cos after the main course one would not be able to eat too much for dessert. Best thing was that not too much sugar syrup was being given. Thus it is was not as sweet as the pistachio kulfi.

Wait if you are interested in having to taste the food @ Indian Curry House and lazy to get out of the house . Please go to the website http://www.streetdirectory.com/indiancurryhouse-expo/
They do provide delivery services in the east area or call  65883324 for the home delivery.

Was it a huge task that u have set for yourself and was not able to break it into smaller and individual task? Identify to the smallest individual level of component level for you to complete your task.

For example , spring cleaning the bedroom. What are the necessary things that are needed to help you complete your work? There are various way to complete it. Getting a part time helper or doing it yourself. If doing it yourself , what do u need? You would need vaccum cleaner or dust pan and broom , water , cloth, newspapers, glass cleaner and some time of rest . Commitment of goal

Commitment needs to be nutured and be rewarded during the process of achieving the goal.
The difficulty level of each goal can push one to motivate himself or herself with expectations when one see that he or she is nearer to the goal each day. Most important is to keep realistic commitment so that it can see one thru during the process and the time and effort that has been put in .

It cant be just commitment without passion in achieving the baby steps towards the big goal. So passion must be included. Find the passion and you will find commitment.

Happy New Year 2011

First of all , i would like to wish everyone out there a happy 2011. Working out on new year resolutions with a s.m.ar.t formula would make one not to feel dejected when it comes to year end when you look back.

List down the new year resolutions that you have made this year. Look at it and define them into the categories of whether they are achievable within the daily lifestyle or it is a resolution which can be achieved within a specific time frame. For most of the ladies , the new year resolution is to lose weight.

Doing your goal setting for your new year resolution requires clarity, challenge, commitment , feedback , task complexity.

Clarity - Are you really clear that the resolution you set forth for this year is really what you wanted to achieve? Clear goals are measurable and unambigous . When a goal is specific and clear, set a time of completion. You will know what is expected and you can use the end result to visualize as a source of motivation. When your goal is vague or expressed as a general instruction, it will be having a limited kind of motivational value to you.

Next week , i will be writing up on the challenge of achieving the goal so stay in tune....

Rejevunating your mind

Now is the perfect time to not only clean out the clutter in our closet and garage, but also the emotional baggage in our mind. Conflicts that are unresolved in the back of our mind only lead to anxiety, anger, or depression. Unresolved feelings eventually take up too much of our energy which can be used for better thoughts and emotions. It's time to get rid of emotional toxins such as behaviours, patterns, and beliefs that interfere with having healthy relationships and living fully.

** Address your issues when you're ready to come to terms with your emotions. You will feel better for facing the truth.

** Surround yourself with a positive and loving environment -one that makes you feel relaxed.

** Learn to let go by creating your own ritual to release the emotional toxins
you've identified.

** Make new choices which include not recreating the old problems you just let go of. It's too easy to relapse, so you must commit to creating an intention which honors your commitment. Go with specific, measurable, and realistic goals.

An emotional cleanse will allow you to feel more alive and rejuvenated. The energy you were using to suppress pain is now available for creative choices.

This rejuvenation is a process and by spring cleaning yourself. You will be more able to implement new goals in full force. Enjoy the gentleness of the detoxification and the peace it brings into your life. You will definitely be living an anti-aging lifestyle if you take care of your body and your mind this season.

Recent issue on the increase in bus fares based on distance

The recent issue on the increase of bus fares based on distance could actually affect the poor. The increase would actually cost them opportunities to avoid travelling far in regards to job hunting. If bus fares are calculated based on the distance travelled , it would cost more for each of us out there taking the public transport. Furthermore, we have no slightest idea if feeder bus rides are also included in the distance based transport system.

In view of this, i would urge the public transport council to do something to stop sbs, smrt and also private bus companies to increase the public transport. Even part time university students would feel the pinch if their merge salary is being largely spent on transport and education.
